We made it back from Haida Gwaii. What a great adventure.
We played in Smithers Friday and then weren't able to make it to Fort St John last night due to the flood (well...not without a 12 hour detour)
So that concludes the Great North Tour 2016 edition. Will absolutely do it again next year. Haida Gwaii left a lasting impression on me. Wells was awesome and the Wheelhouse in Prince Rupert is still my favourite place ever to have a beer.
Thanks for everything and to all the great people we met and re-met from last year.
So we are on tour in Northern BC...we played a show in Prince Rupert at the Wheelhouse Brewery. We had planned to take the car on the ferry to Haida Gwaii but it was full for vehicles.
So the owners of the brewery rounded us up bikes to take. Some locals serviced the bikes for us and then convinced us to play an impromptu set on Sunday afternoon. They raised us $300 in tips and got us wasted and sent us on the overnight ferry to Haida Gwaii. We drunkenly threw a few clothes in our packs and barely made it on time.
It was a true demonstration of local hospitality. This has certainly been one of my favourite touring experiences. I'll remember it fondly

Been hitchhiking and biking around Haida Gwaii for the past couple days. This is a mystical/magical/quirky place. We've met a ton of strange characters and soaked in the Haida culture.
Our first ride was with a native fishing guide. We went 66 KM with him and he stopped 3 times for a smoke break. Really nice dude. He gave us a tour of the village of Masset.
Our second ride was with some intense loggers. They gave us a local history lesson unlike any other. I'm starting to realize that hitchhiking is the best way to learn about an area.
Couldn't agree more. Played at the legendary Wells Hotel last night. What a quirky, wonderful place. We sat around drinking scotch after the show and listened to stories about gold mining, hippies and music. I think I need to do a residency here. I absolutely need to attend ArtsWells someday. #wells #wellsbc #artswells #bc
We recorded some live stories and songs in Edmonton a few weeks back. We've dubbed it "Live From Dirt City". It's up on my bandcamp page right now. It's just Dylan on the pedal steel and me yip yapping away. It's got the 9 minute version of "All Girls Want". Let's be real, most of the songs are about me making fun of Red Deer.
Went swimming at Hixon Falls today. Played in Prince George last night. Saw three black bears. Having a brew at Barkerville Brewing now. On tour for life. #travelbc #PrinceGeorge #Hixon #Barkerville
First road day of the second annual, Great North Tour. We said we would only tour Northern BC once, then we did it and I promptly said that I would tour it every year until I stop touring, or die. We are at Nancy O's in #PrinceGeorge tonight. @nancyospg #bc #beautifulbritishcolumbia #travelbc
Lilac Fest was a hoot and a holler. The crowd must have not got my memo about the Hawaiian shirts. Thanks for the photo @vrenster If I saw you there you would have got some serious shout-outs. @lilacfestyyc #lilacfest #lilacfestival #yyc
First time I ever played for a crowd of pretty girls before! Thanks for having me @eastvillageyyc #evLovesMusic #stpatricksislandyyc #troutbeach
I bought this car when I was 14 years old. It took me until I was 16 1/2 to get the engine rebuilt and running. I bought it to pick up girls, but that didn't work as well as planned.
It's an all original 66 Mustang. Every time I drove it something needed to be fixed.
I burnt a CD of all the chart toppers of 1966. Summer Wind by Sinatra really got me. I got hooked on The Doors and was introduced to Motown through the process.
So kids...If you want to pick up girls then get a guitar. It's more attractive to see someone's soul than their possessions. But if you want a good history lesson, get a classic car!
